Movie review! Bon Cop, Bad Cop

I saw Bon Cop, Bad Cop last night and it was hilarious! Highly recommended (there is some gore factor but it's not over the top, over done, or even repetitive. Just 2 scenes and they are actually essential to the plot).

This is a Canadian film about-- oh, I've already lost you. Don't let the stigma of it being a Canadian production turn you off. It's a great film. And don't listen to the usual negative review by eye magazine. Before I went to see it, a friend forwarded to me the eye review. They gave it 2 stars and said the acting was terrible. I don't see how they saw the acting was bad but then again, they did mention techno music was used throughout the movie. Techno? What techno? There wasn only rock (country rock?). There was a mention of a dj though. Anyway, my point is, eye magazine is full of merde.

Anyhoo, back to the movie, it's about a frencophone cop (from Québec, of course) who is the streetwise, bad cop and an anglophone cop (from, you guessed it, Ontario) who is the by-the-book good cop. They find a body right on the Québec-Ontario border. The two are now partners in solving the crime and of course, the two hate each other from the start. But it's not your predictable movie or plot.

I couldn't stop laughing throughout the movie! Especially the part where the Francophone cop teaches the anglophone the grammar congugations of swearing in French, the bar fight scene (which eye actually agreed was done well), the flirting-- I won't say more as it's best to see these scenes without expecting them (I'm too late, aren't I?). The eiditing is artistic and amazing. Plus, there's rick Mercer. Oh brother, the last person I wanted to see but he pulle dit off very well! And got beaten up. Hilarious! Not that I hate Rick Mercer, but at first I didn't feel like he fit in it properly. But then I was proven wrong.

This is just a quick review (notice how I didn't even mention the cops' names or the actors who played them? Then again, would you even recognize them?).

I saw a trailer for an upcoming movie (I really hate it when they don't tell you the month of release) which seems pretty interesting. I think it's called The Science of Sleep (you can never tell with trailers of today) and it seems to be a French movie but in English (the actors speak English). It's about a guy who can't tell the difference between what he dreamed and what is reality. His dream sequences are all stop-animation (I think that's the term. Ohhh, I've been away from animation too long!). Sounds like one of those weird (but good) indie films.

12 of 12 for August

It's that time of month again! On the 12th day of each month (well, almost each month), participants around the world take 12 photos of their day and post them. A bonus 13th is taken and then another bonus is taken of a word (if I understood correctly). This idea came from a friend of the nice people who create The Rosary Army Podcast (which you can find on sqpn.com).

The photo above was taken after my morning workout. On my way to the gym, I realized that I forgot to bring my camera. I was going to take a photo of my gym. Oh well, here's one of my stinky gym stuff. Enjoy!

I made a protein shake-- (green) kiwi, (yellow) kiwi, banana and whey protein. Kiwi and bananas don't really mix as well as, say, raspberry and chocolate!

After lunch, I sat outside in my backyard since it was a BEAUTIFUL day to work on a few things; my father's website, my website and also reading a tutorial on drawing cartoons with the computer (I had recently purchased a Wacom tablet and quickly found that it's A LOT different than what I had expected. Plus, I tried Adobe Illustrator and wanted to throw it out the window after attmepting to tame it for 30 minutes. I really hate that program!).

Later, my niece came over from a birthday party and showed me a tiny, pink, stretchy dinosaur. I wanted to take a photo of it but she insisted it on being on top of her head!

We walked over to a nearby pond to feed the ducks. When this picture was taken, the ducks were very quickly making their way over to us. Then... they didn't eat the bread we gave them! Instead, they were fighting amongst each other! A great metaphore for current events, for sure.

We came home and played dominos.

Oh wait! I forgot to mention that we also saw a yellow canary. Can you see it in this picture?

At night, I went out with a friend who needed to gas up his car. Funny, he never asked why I was taking photos all night.

There was an accident on the side of the highway on our way to downtown Toronto. Of course, everyone was S-L-O-W-I-N-G down to look. I hope the people involved are ok.

We had gone down to a festival called "The Taste of the Danforth". The Danforth area (which is named after a street) in Toronto is the Greek area with a lot of great Greek restaurants. For a weekend every August, they have this street festival where you taste the food from every restaurant. This terrible photo is of a jazz performance that was going on. That large bight blob is not a UFO, but of the jazz singer. She had a great voice!

This fascinating photo was taken while I was walking along the street--PACKED full of people. We were like sardines. There's a UFO in the distance, honest.

They have these lights along the Danforth to denote that you are in fact in the Greek area of Toronto.

A few hours later, I go home for the night.

I didn't take a photo of a word, sorry!

The Canadian government does NOT represent me!

Our politicians in Canada are a messed up bunch of opportunists if I've ever seen one. Ok, there's the bunch of American politicians ruining the rest of the world for us but I'm specifically talking about Canada. If you're from outside the country, chances are you have no idea who our leaders are. My point exactly. They don't lead the country in the world. They don't make Canada live up to its reputation as a peaceful nation, known for its peacekeeping missions, etc. etc. etc.

No, we get Stephen Harper as a Prime Minister (shudder) and his fellow puppet Peter Mackay who tell the whole world that the stupid things Israel is doing to Lebanon is justified. Oh, and they did nothing when Canadian citizens were killed. I don't know, sounds like they're bending over for the Americans. No surprise there.

I didn't vote for Harper's party and I want him out of there asap. What a farce. I can't believe the drivel half the country slurped up as he kept going on and on about how the Liberal party are a bunch of scandalous theives (a whoel 5 of 'em. Shocking.). Or was it the whole 1% drop in the GST. I'm saving so much money NOW!

And now our reputation's further in the toilet. Thanks but no thanks, Stephen!

Oh, and that whole flying over to Lebanon to "personally" fly a whole 61 (plus or less) people back to Ottawa... yeah, with your PR team. How about standing up for Canada like your pathetic election campaign repeated over and over and over?

As for Israel, I know it's necessary to get rid of terrorists, but you've had such a terrific history of razor sharp attacks but this time, you seem bent on destroying all of Lebanon. Obviously, they think civilians are expendable. Sounds very American-policy to me!

And as for the civilians of Lebanon, I don't know much about their history but your country was run by terrorists and you just sat there and did nothing? Sounds very Canadian to me!
